The direction of a kata is not always the direction of the attack.
A turn to the left does not automatically mean an attacker is coming from the left. A movement straight ahead does not simply mean walking into someone.
Sometimes direction is teaching angle. Sometimes it’s teaching entry. Sometimes it’s teaching structure, pressure, control, or position.
The more useful question is not, “Which way does the kata move?”
It is, “What is that movement trying to teach?”
